Why this matters
Caring for a living plant teaches children that consistent, gentle attention creates flourishing life.
What you need
- A clear glass jar or repurposed bottle
- Water
- A 6-inch vine cutting with aerial root node
How to do it
Take your child to inspect a healthy household money plant or pothos vine.
Point out the small brown bump along the stem: 'This is an aerial node — a root waiting to wake up!'
Carefully trim 1 cm below the node with clean kitchen shears.
Fill a glass bottle with water, submerge the node, and place it on a bright windowsill.
Assign your child the duty of topping up the water every Sunday and measuring root growth.

Parent tip · What to say

What your child practices

Safety & Supervision
Adult handling of scissors/shears; secure glass jars away from floor edges.
